BEAVERCREEK — A fire at a Beavercreek home claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman Thursday night. Fire crews found the victim, identified as Elizabeth Oomen, after extinguishing a fire in a back patio room in a home in the 3100 block of Casler Avenue.

According to Scott Dorsten, deputy chief of the Beavercreek Township Fire Department, the victim was the only person home at the time of the fire and was found “deceased in there as a result of injuries sustained from the fire,” in the room where the fire originated. No other injuries were reported in association with the incident.

Dorsten said the fire is not considered suspicious, but noted that the incident is still under investigation. The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the fire.

The call came in at about 9 p.m. Thursday, Dorsten said.

“Crews had the fire contained within 15 minutes of arrival, but we were on-scene until a little after 1 o’clock (a.m.) for the investigation,” he added.

The fire was contained to the room where it originated, Dorsten said. He estimated the damage to the home to be about $40,000.
