News-Current Report

BEAVERCREEK Sydney Copeland — Miss Junior Beavercreek 2011 and a rising Junior at The Ohio Connections Academy — was recently named Miss Teen Midwest Galaxy 2016.

The pageant took place April 9 in Canton, Mich. As Miss Teen Midwest Galaxy 2016, Copeland will compete with national and international winners at the 2016 Galaxy International Pageant in August. The event takes place Aug. 10– 13 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. According to the Galaxy organization, the pageant is “a progressive event that focuses on the future and challenges all women to make better tomorrows.”

Sydney is a former member of the Beavercreek Youth Council, Ankeney’s Student Council, Character Club, basketball cheer, Air City Chicks club volleyball and active in her community. She loves giving back and fulfilled her dream of volunteering in Africa during a two week service trip to Tanzania in July 2015 with Global Leadership Adventures.

She is also the founder of Jacob’s Wish. Sydney started the first Pillow Pet and Red Wagon Drive in March 2011 after hearing Jacob’s story on K-Love. She was inspired by his desire to help other sick children while critically ill himself. Jake brought together many people and people donated thousands of Pillow Pets that were distributed from Indiana (where he lived) and throughout the country. Sydney decided she wanted to honor Jake in her community and collects Pillow Pets for patients at Dayton Children’s Medical Center.

She also collects monetary donations for Red Wagons. The wagons are used instead of wheelchairs for the kids. In five years, Sydney has collected and donated over 800 new pillow pets and almost $8,000 for Dayton Children’s Medical Center. Copeland will have the opportunity to attend festivals, parades, community activities, and volunteer her services to organizations helping those in need.
