FAIRBORN — Greene County Housing Program (GCHP) will host its first 5K — “Stabilizing Families Community Walk-A-Thon” — Saturday, April 29 at Community Park East.

The proceeds from the 5K will help continue the operation and service of the comprehensive emergency and transitional housing for families and children who are experiencing homelessness. At GCHP, families receive shelter for 30 days in emergency and six months in transitional.

GCHP, a non-profit organization, serves approximately 266 individuals and 83 families per year. The cost of a shelter per night in Greene County is $18.25. Ninety-two percent of individuals who have exited the program and entered the community have gone on to attain stable housing.

The April event will include kid-friendly activities, food trucks, music and family fun. First, second and third place prizes will be given to the teams that bring in the most funds. T-shirts will be provided to participants raising $100 or more.

Get involved by creating a team, raising funds, or calling on a local agency or business to sponsor the event. All walkers and runners are welcome.

Same-day registration opens 8:30 a.m. and the run/walk will begin 9:30 a.m. Community Park East is at 691 E. Dayton Yellow-Springs Rd., Fairborn.
