BEAVERCREEK — One well-known resident recently made history in becoming the first woman to be inducted into the Class of 2016 Veterans Hall of Fame in Columbus. She was one of 19 Ohio Veterans to receive this disguised recognition. Army veteran Debborah Wallace city council member and community volunteer has dedicated her time and life to helping better the community for all.

“It was a great honor and very humbling,” Wallace said. “I was inducted because of my time served in the Army and my public service in the community.”

As part of the induction, Wallace’s name was engraved on a bronze plaque that represents the class of 2016 inductees. The plaque will be permanently displayed on the Vern Riffe Building in Columbus. The official ceremony took place in November.

“Pat yourself on the back for the award you just received and a job well done,” Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone said.

As stated in her biography with the Veteran’s Hall of Fame, Wallace has served on the following boards in her 35 years of public service: Office of Management & Budget, the City of Dayton Civil Service Board, Senior Citizens Center Board, Dayton Visual Arts Board, YMCA Camp Kern Board, Beavercreek Zoning Appeals Board, Planning Commission, City Council member and Vice Mayor. She prides herself in being a tough advocate for the disabled and veterans.

Wallace also involved in boards and committees such as the Beavercreek Women’s League, Board of Miami Valley Military Affairs, Beavercreek Chamber of Commerce, Veteran’s Advisory Committee, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and is a chaplain for VFW Post 2800.

Wallace is the first woman to be recognized by the Veterans Hall of Fame in Greene County, but she joins other Greene County veterans on the list at the Vern Riffe Building’s wall. Since 2010, the Veteran’s Hall of Fame has inducted five other veterans.
