“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness.” (Luke 11:34-35)

The fuel of a flame determines its color, clarity and brightness. The heart, inner spirit, of a person determines what shines out of the eyes. One’s eyes can express a joyful spirit or an angry spirit. Jesus gives humankind a warning here. Be very careful as to what you take into your personal spirit because it will affect how you see things and act. It will determine whether a person will choose the narrow way of Jesus or the broad way of the world. The Scriptures are full of information on how God has worked to bring light and goodness into human lives and not darkness.

Every moment pours information and experiences into our lives. We are natural receptors and as such we are influenced by these for good or evil. The world of darkness seeks to influence us to compromise the things of God and drift away from Him in pursuit of earthly treasure. God with the gift of His Spirit within us works to strengthen our stand for His life principles. All of this can be seen in our eyes by others. Let our hearts and minds be filled with the things of God so that our eyes show it.

Heavenly Father, what is within us You know so well. Fill us with Your Spirit so that our spirit is more and more controlled by You. Let our eyes show forth Your love for the world to see – the love Jesus shared on the Cross. In His name. Amen.
