COLUMBUS — Carroll senior wrestler Nick Berry became the school’s 19th state-placer over the weekend.

The 120-pound senior concluded his high school career going 2-3 in Columbus, winning a pair of consolation matches to finish eighth in Division II. He is Carroll’s first state-placer since Josh Nelson was fourth at 119 pounds in 2010.

Berry, Carroll’s lone state qualifier, beat Blaine Hunter of Elida 5-2 in the first consolation match and then beat Addison Fogle of Newark Licking Valley, 3-2, in the next round. Berry lost 3-0 to Hunter Kosco of Canal Fulton Northwest and then 7-0 to Matthew Cordello of Cuyahoga Falls Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in the seventh-place match.

As a team the Patriots finished tied for 60th with three points. Carroll has had two state champs, five finish second, three finish third, two finish fourth, two finish fifth, three finish sixth and one finish seventh in addition to Berry.
