Beavercreek defeats Bellbrook

BEAVERCREEK — Sabra Woodruff scored four goals for Beavercreek’s Girls Lacrosse, Mackenzie Sorensen, Cassie Mullins and Alyssa Hinton scored two each while teammates Bethany Carls, Megan Miller, Maddie Frye, Claire Sturkol, Ellie Cade and Harmony Pierce scored one each in Tuesday’s 16-9 win over Bellbrook.

Six Raiders on HL All-Academic team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Horizon League released its winter All-Academic Teams On Wednesday with six Wright State student-athletes being selected. Of the six, senior swimmer Matt Dassow and diver Samantha TenEyck were each selected for the third straight year and junior swimmer Clement Quilliec for the second consecutive year.

To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 credits.

The three Wright State student athletes named to the team for the first time were Csongor Bajnoczki (men’s swimming & diving), Emily Hayhow (women’s swimming & diving) and Gabrielle Markley (women’s indoor track).

Wenzler headed to NCAA Regionals

FAIRBORN — Wright State junior golfer Ryan Wenzler will compete in the Vanderbilt Regional as the NCAA announced its selections Thursday morning.

The three-round regional will take place May 16-18 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn. Wenzler will be one of 10 individuals competing at the regional, which also includes 13 teams.

Following conclusion of the regional, the low five teams and the low individual not on the five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

Wenzler earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after winning the Horizon League Tournament April 22-24 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. He won the tournament with a three-round score of 211, becoming the first Raider to earn medalist honors at the league championship since Brandon Knutson won with a 210 at the 2006 championship in Carmel, Ind. With his first-place finish, the junior also was named to the league’s All-Tournament Team.

The league tournament was the second straight tournament win for Wenzler and the third title this season (NKU Collegiate Classic, Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational). Wenzler became the first WSU player to win three tournaments in a year since Frank Lickliter did so in 1989-90. Wenzler was a First Team All-Horizon League selection this season as he posted a team-best 72.86 round average.

Rotary Club outing May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.
