Beavers win in overtime

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Beavers boys basketball team edge visiting Springfield 8-7 in the four-minute overtime period of Dec. 9 game to claim a 70-69 win at the Zink Fieldhouse. Jon Alessandro led Beavercreek (3-0, 1-0 GWOC American East) with 19 points scored. Cedric Baldwin turned in a double-double with 17 points scored and 11 rebounds, Evan Saylor scored 13 points from off the bench, and Peyton Young finished with a dozen points in the win. The Beavers next play at Huber Heights Wayne at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Spartans rally past Carroll

RIVERSIDE — After trailing 30-18 at halftime, visiting Saint Bernard Roger Bacon outscored the host Carroll Patriots 34-16 in the second half for Dec. 9’s 52-46 win. Carroll’s T.K. Robinson scored a game-high 14 points in the loss. The Patriots hosted Urbana, Tuesday night. They’ll travel to Cincinnati Purcell Marian for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, Dec. 16.

Carroll girls climb to 5-0

BELLBROOK — Trailing 33-31 after three quarters of play, the visiting Carroll Patriots girls basketball team outscored Bellbrook 17-7 in the fourth quarter to claim a 48-40 win, Dec. 7 at Bellbrook High. With the win, Carroll remains undefeated this season at 5-0.

Morgan King led the Patriots with 212 points scored, while Amanda Schroeder turned in a double-double performance with 17 points scored and 11 rebounds. No individual stats were available for Bellbrook (2-2).

Beavers sink Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — Keaira Youngblood scored a game-high 24 points and hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds in Beavercreek’s 76-39 girls basketball win Dec. 7 over host Springfield. Bailey Draughn also had a good scoring night. She finished with 14 for Beavercreek (4-1, 1-0 GWOC National East). The Battlin’ Beavers will host Huber Heights Wayne at 1 p.m. Saturday. Springfield (0-2, 0-1 GWOC National East) was led by Ariana Rinehart, who finished with 13 points.

Beavers double up W. Carrollton

BEAVERCREEK — Host Beavercreek jumped out to a 22-12 lead after the first quarter of play and pulled away from the West Carrollton Pirates the rest of the way, in Dec. 6’s 60-29 boys basketball win. Cedric Baldwin led the Beavers (2-0) with 19 points scored; Peyton Young finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Carroll bowlers fall to Knights

DAYTON — Fifty three pins separated host Carroll (2-1) from Kettering Alter in Dec. 6’s Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North boys bowling match at Poelking Lanes Wilmington. Led by a quartet of bowlers who rolled two-game series of 315 or higher, Alter (2-0) came away with a 2,390 to 2,337 win.

Jacob Schoening led Carroll with a match-high 467 two-game series with a high game of 267. Three other Patriots bowlers tossed two-game series of 300 or higher: Joshua Goodpaster rolled a 359, while Daniel Hebert and Mitch Weitz rolled two-game series of 305 and 300 respectively. Carroll will host Chaminade Julienne in another GCL Co-ed North contest at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at Poelking Wilmington.

Patriots edge Miamisburg

MIAMISBURG — The visiting Carroll Patriots outscored Miamisburg 6-4 in overtime to claim a 61-59 boys basketball win, Dec. 6 at Miamisburg High School. T.K. Robinson led the Pats in scoring, and tied Miamisburg’s Duncan Hall for game-high honors, with 16 points. Stafford Stevens finished with 14 points for Carroll, and Jack Seltsam finished with 10 in the win.

Beavercreek beats Lakota East

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — Keaira Youngblood led Beavercreek with an 11-point effort, while Lexi Moore, Haley Hutchins and Taylor Steingbrunner each scored eight, in Monday’s 45-25 girls basketball win over Lakota East. Beavercreek (3-1) played at Springfield on Wednesday. They’ll open up Greater Western Ohio Conference National East Division action with a 1 p.m. Dec. 10 home game against Huber Heights Wayne.
