Bellbrook-Sugarcreek golf outing, Aug. 20

BELLBROOK — The 24th Annual Bellbrook-Sugarcreek area chamber of commerce golf outing will take place, Thursday Aug. 20 at Sugar Valley Golf Club, 1250 Mead Road, in Bellbrook.

Registration and lunch is at noon, shotgun start takes place at 1 p.m. Golfers are asked to wear soft-spiked shoes. Cost is $90 per player, which includes golf, a cart, food all day, refreshments and prizes.

Herbert is G-MAC nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University tennis standout Maryssa Herbert has been selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference honoree for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

It’s the second consecutive year that CU has represented the G-MAC for the prestigious honor. Former women’s soccer player Deanne Bradshaw was the 2014 choice.

Herbert, a native of Milford, Mich., graduated in May with degrees in special education and early childhood education. She is one of 147 nominees from all NCAA divisions in the nation with a total of 39 coming from Division II.

The top 30 nominees, 10 from each division, will be announced in September.

Now in its 25th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award recognizes graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.

CSU Hall Inductees announced for 2015

WILBERFORCE – Central State Athletic Director Jahan Culbreath has announced the department’s Hall of Fame committee’s 2015 inductees. Joining the CSU Hall of Fame this year will be Thelanious “Laney” Prioleau, Dr. Arthur E. Thomas, and the 1990 Central State football team.

In addition to this year’s inductees, Central State’s undefeated 1965 men’s basketball team will be in attendance to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The ‘65 team won the school’s first NAIA national basketball title with a flawless 30-0 record.

The 2015 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at the Country Club of the North at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in Beavercreek. Tickets to the induction ceremony are available for $35 each and can be purchased online or by calling the CSU Athletic Office at (937) 376-6289. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase their ticket(s) on or before Monday, Aug. 31.

Brandon Phillips Bowling Bash hits September

CINCINNATI — Register today for the inaugural Brandon Phillips Bowling Bash on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Super Bowl in Erlanger, KY.

Join Brandon and his Reds teammates for an exciting evening of food, fun and bowling all while raising money for the Reds Community Fund.

The doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for VIP check-in and reception. Bowling will begin at 6:30 p.m. for all participants.

All registrants will enjoy two and a half hours of unlimited bowling, a group photo with Brandon and a Reds gift bag that includes a commemorative bowling t-shirt (custom bowling shirt for VIPs), Brandon Phillips bobblehead, custom bowling pin and an autographed baseball from a Reds player.

VIP registrants get to bowl with a current Reds player or coach and VIP Full Lane registrants will have access to a reception hosted by Brandon.
