XENIA — Greene County Commissioners approved local projects to submit to the state for funding approval at Thursday’s regular board meeting.

Projects approved included street improvements in the village of Clifton, sidewalk and gutter improvements in the village of Jamestown, repairs at the Jamestown Opera House, repairs at the Spring Valley Township Senior Center and Greene County Fair Housing administration funds, all totaling $139,000 in funding requests.

Commissioners approved the requests after hearing presentations at a previous meeting from several groups looking for project funding through the county’s application to the FY15 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program, a federally funded program administered by the state of Ohio. Commissioners narrowed down the field of interested parties and approved the final decision Thursday.

Activities must be designed to primarily benefit low and moderate income persons, aid in the prevention or elimination of slums and blight or meet an urgent need of the community.

The county’s application will now go to the Ohio Development Services Agency for approval later this month.
