BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Women’s League offered an opportunity Wednesday to put a face along with the names appearing on the ballot during the upcoming election.

League officials had invited all candidates in contested races to attend the Candidates and Issues Forum event, which began 9 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Beavercreek. Some individuals vying for the United States Representative 10th District, Ohio State Senator 10th District, Ohio State Representatives 73rd District and Ohio Supreme Court Justice either attended the event or had another individual speak on their behalf.

Candidates had three minutes at the microphone.

Tom McMasters (I) is running against U.S. Cong. Mike Turner (R) and Robert Klepinger (D) for the 10th District. He emphasized his position as an independent candidate, family man and consumer. He also said he is a retired Air Force officer. Turner and Klepinger were not in attendance.

Bob Hackett (R) is running against Matthew Kirk (D) for the Ohio 10th District seat. Hackett spoke of his experience, saying he was a state representative for seven years until taking Chris Widener’s position as senator earlier this year. He also served as a Madison County commissioner for eight years.

Kirk’s experience is within economic development as a tax professional for Ohio. He said he was a business development manager in the Ohio Department of Development.

Brian Housh (D) is running against Rick Perales (R) for the Ohio 73rd District seat. Perales was in attendance, while Linda Rudawski spoke on Housh’s behalf. Rudawski expressed Housh’s experience, saying he currently serves as vice president for the Yellow Springs Village Council and midwest policy manager for Rails to Trails.

Perales is the incumbent, saying it is his fourth year in office. Before he was elected, he served as a Greene County commissioner for eight years as well as a member of Beavercreek City Council and in the Air Force.

Pat DeWine (R) is running for the Ohio Supreme Court Justice seat against Cynthia Rice (D). Neither were in attendance. However, Sandy Feix spoke on DeWine’s behalf, saying that upon graduating law school, DeWine served the Keating, Muething, and Klekamp law firm for 13 years. He was also a Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas judge, Hamilton County commissioner and Cincinnati City councilman. He currently serves as a judge on the Ohio 1st District Court of Appeals.

The event also allowed individuals to explain City of Beavercreek, Beavercreek Township and county issues. Residents throughout Greene County are being asked to renew two levies, which will continue to support Greene Memorial Hospital and the Greene County Career Center if passed, respectively.
