WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE – Brig. Gen. Michael Schmidt will become the Program Executive Officer for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Fighters and Bombers Directorate.

Schmidt is currently the PEO for Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Special Operations Forces within AFLCMC, and in his new position will be responsible for the development, production, fielding, sustainment and modernization of the Fighters and Bombers portfolio, which includes the A-10, A-29, B-1, B-2, B-52, F-15, F-16, F-22, Combat Systems and Special Programs.

In addition he will be responsible for organizing, training and equipping the F-35 System Program Office.

Schmidt entered the Air Force in 1991 after graduating from Iowa State University as an ROTC distinguished graduate with a degree in industrial engineering.

He has served as an engineer and program manager on numerous programs throughout his Air Force career and is a graduate of the Air Force Legislative Fellows Program and the National War College. He has held his current position since July 2014.

He will replace Brig. Gen. Eric Fick who is leaving to take the position of director, Global Reach Programs, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition.
