BEAVERCREEK — Kettering Health Network needs people to lead classes that teach family caregivers how to care for themselves while caring for a family member or friend.

The network’s Community Outreach Department has been holding the free six-week Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) class since 2016. However, volunteer class leaders are needed so the program can reach caregivers throughout the area.

In order to lead the class, a person must become a PTC class leader. A Class Leader Training Class will take place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday Aug. 22-23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Community Outreach Conference Room, 2145 N. Fairfield Road. The cost for the two-day training is $100.

Kettering Health Network will facilitate all PTC classes. Community Outreach staff will secure the meeting space, tables and chairs, as well as provide all presentation equipment, displays and caregiver resource materials.

All PTC classes are led by two trained class leaders using a detailed, scripted curriculum. The class leaders help caregivers learn how to: Lower their stress, reduce guilt, anger and depression, set goals and problem-solve, make tough decisions, find community resources and communicate effectively with other family members, doctors and paid help.

For more information on the PTC Class Leader Training Class, call Community Outreach at 937-558-3988. The deadline to register for the class is August 10. PTC supports caregivers, class leaders, and master trainers around the country. For more information visit www.powerfultoolsforcaregivers.org.
