XENIA — Greene County is giving a very early holiday bonus to its entities.

At their regular meeting Oct. 18, commissioners voted to create a grant fund through the Department of Development and disperse $500,000 to the county’s cities, villages, and townships. Beavercreek, Bellbrook, Fairborn, and Xenia will each receive $175,000, while the villages and townships will share $325,000, according to County Administrator Brandon Huddleson.

The money being used was made available due to the county’s continued frugality.

“This has been a long time coming,” Huddleson said. “I think we have a program now that everyone can be proud of.”

There only restriction is that the money must be used for permanent public improvements, Huddleson said. He also said that they must submit a report by Oct. 21, 2019 detailing how the money was used so that the county can evaluate the program and plan on grants for the next year.

“The political subdivisions know better how to spend their money,” Commissioner Tom Koogler said. “And this is their money. Their tax dollars.”

Villages and townships are tentatively schedule to receive checks during a special meeting Tuesday, Dec. 4. The four cities will receive their money at other times.

“I think it will be very well used,” Commissioner Alan Anderson said.
