YELLOW SPRINGS — In celebration of National Adoption Month, Greene County Children Services will host a special free movie screening. The event will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs. The animated film “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” will be shown at the event.

Anyone interested in learning more about adoption is encouraged to attend the event, as information on the topic will be available. Greene County Children Services adoption specialists, along with adoptive families, will also be on hand to answer questions.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend with their parents. Everyone, adults and children, will be admitted for free.

“We chose this movie for our event because it’s the perfect, lighthearted look at issues surrounding adoption from a childlike point of view,” said Jessica Wilson, a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Adoption Specialist working for Greene County Children Services. “The movie is very funny and is meant mainly for kids but it’s also actually quite heartwarming and portrays adoption in a very positive way.”

There are currently 19 children in the permanent custody of Greene County Children Services that are awaiting adoption.

“These children need and deserve permanent families, regardless of their age or history,” said Amy Amburn, administrator for Greene County Children Services. “Research shows that being part of a loving, supportive permanent family, regardless of how that family is formed, is crucial to a child’s well-being and his or her ability to grow up healthy and happy.”

The Little Art Theatre is located at 247 Xenia Ave., Yellow Springs.
