BELLBROOK — Join Greene County Parks & Trails as they join the Ohio Division of Natural Resources for the park agency’s own Free Fishing Day between dusk and dawn, Saturday, May 7, at Spring Lakes Park.

No Ohio fishing license or Springs Lakes Park fishing permit will be required for anglers 14 years and older. Fishing or creel limits must be followed as posted at the park.

Three fishing areas are offered at Spring Lakes Park with larger pond stocked with channel catfish the week prior to the event. Bluegill, crappie, large-mouth bass, carp and trout (on a seasonal basis) are also within the ponds.

All fish will be catch-and-release; the Spring Lakes Bait House will be open with bait, limited supplies and refreshments available for sale.

During the year, State of Ohio fishing licenses are not required but Greene County Parks & Trails permits must be purchased. Anglers may self-permit at the park or at the GCP&T park office headquarters, 575 Ledbetter Road, Xenia.

Permits are available for one day, $10; one-year, adult, $30; one-year, teen between 13 and 17 $15; one-year, senior, over 60, $20; children under 12, free; and groups should contact the park office for special rates.

The funds raised from permit sales allow the park agency to stock the pond throughout the year with channel catfish and trout.
