TROTWOOD — A Greene County teen died Sunday in an accidental drowning incident at a Trotwood lake.

Travis Williams, 15, of Greene County, was pronounced dead after emergency crews were called to Madison Lakes Park, located on the 500 block of Olive Road, in Trotwood for a water rescue just after 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, according to our partners at WDTN.

Trotwood Deputy Chief John Porter said emergency crews were called on reports of a possible drowning. News reports said Williams went into the water and did come back up, prompting emergency teams from across the area to search the water with rescue boats.

WDTN reported that Williams may have been in the water up to 90 minutes.

Porter said several people were in the area when the emergency occurred and helped search for the teen within the lake, which is an old gravel pit. Swimming is not allowed at Madison Lakes Park because of the unsafe conditions, according to Porter.

“It’s a very dangerous situation,” said Porter. “We’ve been seeing a lot of kids come out here. We would ask the general public [to] acknowledge [that] there’s no swimming out here because of the dangerousness of it.”

Officials are awaiting toxicology reports.

Trotwood police are expected to increase enforcement in the park after Sunday’s drowning. News reports said anyone caught swimming in Madison Lakes Park will be charged with trespassing.

According to Facebook posts, Williams is the son of Angela Williams-Slusser, who died of a heart attack while fleeing from gun shots at the Beavercreek Wal-Mart in 2014.
