XENIA — Greene County Retired Teachers Association met Nov. 16 at the United Memorial Presbyterian Church to install the new officers for the 2017 calendar year and to hear the new Executive Director of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association speak.

The new officers for 2017 are: President – William Wright; Vice President – Linda Beaver; Recording Secretary – Linda Beam; Corresponding Secretary – Judy Hudson; Treasurer – Carol Smith; and Assistant Treasurer – Fay Sesslar.

The new Executive director of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association is Dr. John Cavanaugh. He spoke to the assembled membership regarding new initiatives at the state level to incorporate electronic messaging by specific county entities regarding membership opportunities for retired teachers, group plans and services, and bulk discounts we qualify for nationwide an example would be a $50 to $75 discount on activities in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Cavanaugh also spoke of the problem of the disproportionate weight of STRS health costs facing retired teachers who do not qualify for social security benefits.

GCRTA welcomes all Greene County retired teachers and administrators in Greene County to become active members of the Greene County organization in order to make the organization gain in strength. The Winter quarter Luncheon Meeting will be 11:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at United Memorial Presbyterian Church.
