OVCH property receives certification

XENIA — The county-owned OVCH Industrial Park, located at 839 Union Road, has received site certification as a General Industrial Park through Dayton Power & Light’s (DP&L) Evaluation and Certification Program.

Paul Newman Jr., Director of Development, announced during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Thursday that the Greene County Department of Development recently received this award.

The completion of DP&L’s site certification program means that the site is ready for development, or ‘shovel ready’.

“The certification of this property is a big deal,” Newman said during his presentation. “In today’s world, business moves fast.”

Site certification shows new businesses or moving companies that the site is ready with necessary infrastructure and zoning, Newman explained.

“So when business is ready to move — DP&L certification lets them know that our site is ‘shovel ready’, mitigating and minimizing the risk, cost and timeline site selectors take on when they choose where to locate,” he said. “If it fits them, they can move right in and start to build.”

The OVCH property was one of six locations in West Central Ohio that DP&L awarded with this certification last week.

To complete the process and acquire certification, all sites must meet a set of detailed standards to prove readiness for development. From acquiring necessary documentation to its approval, the process has taken over two years, involving the Department of Development, County Commissioners and Administrator, county departments and the City of Xenia.

“This is just another indication of why Greene County is one of the best in the sate,” Commissioner Tom Koogler said after the presentation.

Achieving certification attracts both investment and jobs, which are more competitive now than ever, Newman highlighted in his speech.

“This opens doors for us,” Commissioner Alan Anderson said.

The site’s certification will expire in November of 2021, upon which the property will need to submit for recertification.
