GREENE COUNTY — Greene County is overflowing with individuals, organizations and businesses who go above and beyond at the call of duty, and some of them were honored at the Greene County Annual Report to the Community April 21 over eggs and coffee and in front of county and community leaders.

Christy Fielding

Christy Fielding, assistant superintendent of business operations of Xenia Community Schools was named to the Ohio School Board Association Southwest Region as an Outstanding Administrator for 2016 after six years of service and a number of undertakings for Xenia Community Schools. She has overseen five new elementary buildings go up in the district, negotiated two employee contracts, renewed two levies, created an energy project which saved more than $79,000 as well as a recycling program, worked to replace all teacher computers that were older than seven years and added 2,700 new Chromebooks for students.

Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond

Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, who serves as the president of Central State University, was named the 2016 Female President of the Year. She started serving Central State in 2012 as its first female president in the 130-year-old university.

DMS Ink

DMS Ink, headquartered in Yellow Springs, picked up a number of awards in 2016, such as one of the fastest growing Asian-American businesses. It is now included as one of the Fast 100, an award by the U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. It was also honored by the Dayton Business Journal as the Women Owned Business of the Year in 2016, in addition to receiving second place as the Minority Owned Business of the Year.

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc.

MTSI of Beavercreek is an engineering service and technology solutions company that aims to deliver first-choice capabilities for solutions that can impact on the international level. It was named a 2016 Military Friendly Employer by Victory Media, Inc., as it was celebrated for its military-friendly program and employment opportunities for military spouses and veterans. More than 40 percent of the company’s new hires have been veterans or reservists over the last few years. The Dayton Business Journal also named it one of the Best Places to Work in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

Eric Knowles

Legacy Christian Academy senior student Eric Knowles is a champion swimmer, becoming a three-time state champion in the 200-yard individual medley and two-time state champion in the 500-yard freestyle during the 2016 Ohio Division II State High School Swim Meet.

Cody Bybee

Bellbrook High School junior student Cody Bybee in 2016 won the Division II Ohio High School titles in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. Bybee also set a new state record which had been in place for 26 years when he completed a 200-yard freestyle in 1:34.55.

Tommy Hoskins

Legacy Christian Academy student Tommy Hoskins is now a three-time state wrestling champion, winning the 113-pound Ohio High School Division III state title in addition to the 120-pound Ohio High School Division III state title, becoming the 65th three-time champion in Ohio high school history.

Tyler Wiederholt

Tyler Wiederholt of Bellbrook High School won the 2016 Ohio High School Division II state wrestling title in the 182-pound class, placing twice at the state level.

Drew Brads

Junior Legacy Christian Academy student Drew Brads holds the world record for solving the pyraminx (related to the three-by-three Rubik’s cube) in 1.32 seconds and recently set a new “North American Record” for solving a three-by-three Rubik’s cube puzzle in 4.76 seconds. He has also picked up five national titles and one world championship within the last four years. He will travel to France in the summer for the 2017 World Championship.

Michael Stemberski

Michael Stemberski was honored in 2016 with the Pat Kowalski Memorial Award, which is given to SkillsUSA auto collision students who display dependability, initiative, integrity, a positive attitude and service to others. Stemberski is the president of the southwest region for SkillsUSA, previously serving as a state officer.

Katie Pauley

Senior Beavercreek High School student Katie Pauley received the Ohio Military Youth of the Year Award last year. Ohio Military Youth is a partnership formed between the Ohio National Guard and Ohio 4-H to support children in military families. Pauley is the first award recipient who is a Wright-Patterson Air Force Base representative of the 4-H Healthy Living Advocates.

Jonah Reed

Warner Middle School (Xenia) student Jonah Reed received the AAA Life-Saving Medal. The student served as a captain in the Cox Elementary Safety Patrol in 2016 and protected a group of children from a driver who was texting behind the wheel. The driver attempted to break through the safety area, where the driver did not see children crossing. Reed yelled at the children to move and at the driver to get her attention. Reed then escorted the children across the street.

Julie Deardorff

Director of Collection Services and Associate Professor of Library Science Julie Deardorff of Cedarville University received the 2016 Jay Ladd Distinguished Service Award, which is given to outstanding academic librarians in Ohio by the Academic Library Association. Deardorff has served Cedarville’s Centennial Library for 20 years.

Greene County Records Center and Archives

This organization was honored not only on a state-level, but on the national level. Its educational outreach efforts received the 2016 National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators Program of Excellence Award, which highlights outstanding government archives and records management programs, as well as the Ohio Records Advisory Board’s Achievement Award, which celebrates accomplishments in keeping historical records and improving access. With these awards under its belt, the Greene County Records Center and Archives can now serve as a model for similar organizations.

Wright State University Office of Disability Services

The Office of Disability Services received the 2016 Edward M. Kennedy Community Service Award for displaying outstanding community service. Wright State was awarded by the American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity.

Karen Hornick

Jamestown citizen Karen Hornick won the 2016 World Championship in Senior Western Pleasure, beating 30 competitors, in the 2016 Lucas Oil American Quarter Horse Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City.

Jordan Long

Cedarville University student Jordan Long was honored with the Student Leadership Award by the American Pharmacists Association as he was wrapping up his final year in pharmacy school. The award is based on outstanding academic achievement and leadership skills. Long is one of four students in the nation to receive the award.
