BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Historical Society plans to compose and submit a brief monthly column to the News-Current emphasizing local events of historical interest from 50 years ago that month beginning in July.

This is in keeping with the society’s drive to emphasize more recent history as part of its purview, to interest and involve our younger two generations, and to explore how even relatively recent events affect life in Beavercreek today.

According to the historical society it will draw on back issues of the Beavercreek News, Beavercreek Township Trustee meeting minutes, and personnel recollections of some of its more senior members.

The idea arose from lengthy research by a group member resulting in publication of “Birth of a City,” a personalized history of Beavercreek’s incorporation battle and original charter genesis. The author found even such recent history to be instructive, and explanatory of where we are today — “Today is tomorrow’s history!”
