XENIA — Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 OSU Extension Master Gardener classes. Deadline to apply is Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Potential volunteers can qualify to be a Greene County Ohio Master Gardener if they want to learn more about plants and gardening, are eager to participate in a practical and intensive training program, enjoy sharing knowledge with others and have the time to attend training and serve the community as a volunteer educator.

Initial training is conducted for 13 weeks usually from early February through early April. Once training is completed, participants must volunteer 50 hours of service through the OSU Extension Office. To recertify each year participants must volunteer 25 hours, again through the OSU Extension Office and complete 10 hours of continuing education.

The fee for the training is $175. This covers the cost of training materials and other expenses incurred to conduct training and to help support educational activities.
