BEAVERCREEK — Kaitlyn Buell and Megan Pucciani, both sophomore students at Beavercreek High School, were selected as essay award winners in the 17th Annual Families Matter Essay and Poster Contest, sponsored by Family Services of Dayton.
“What Makes My Family Special” was the theme which inspired more than 600 entries from students from across the Miami Valley. Only three essays were chosen in each age bracket. Buell and Pucciani competed amongst 9-12th graders.
All winners were recognized at an awards breakfast at the Mandalay Banquet Center, where each received a certificate and other gifts from local sponsors.
Also in attendance was Jami Russ, Beavercreek High School Honors English teacher to both girls. Buell’s essay entitled “Treasured Time Together” was one of the winning entries featured and read aloud to all those in attendance, which included the Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley and Marsha Bonhart, local journalist.
