Likes That Attract

“When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first.” (Matthew 12:43-45)

They are real! Evil spirits roam the earth seeking to influence humankind, and it is not for good. Each individual is a receptacle for a spirit or spirits. Is it possible to live without any spirit present in one’s life? Good question. Fortunately, we don’t have to ask that question because God gives us His Holy Spirit within us. Spirit battles will continue on this earth but with the Spirit of God within us, through faith in Jesus, the Christ, the victory is ours.

God offers only one Spirit but the world offers many. That is the difference between His narrow way and the world’s broad way. If we open up to the world we can expect many worldly spirits and influences to come our way. If we open up more and more to our God we can expect the mind of Christ, our Savior and Lord. In the physical world often times opposites attract but in the spirit world it is likes that attract. May the Lord bless us with more and more of the “likes” of His Spirit in our everyday contacts of life.

Heavenly Father, this is serious warfare for our souls. Fill and overwhelm us with Your Holy Spirit through all the means available to us, Your Word, Holy Communion, Prayer, Friends, etc. Help us stand strong against the evil spirits of the world, recognizing them, and opposing them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
