“Jesus began to speak first to his disciples saying: ‘Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.’” (Luke 12:1b-2)
Jesus is taking on the top religious leaders of His time, the Pharisees. His bold approach is exposing them for who they really are. They speak one thing and believe or do another – that is what a hypocrite is. Their true intentions are hidden. They cannot be trusted to tell the truth and live it. They are confronted by the real Truth, Who also lives it – the very Truth of God – Jesus. Our God is a God of Truth. He hates deceit and lies. There is no place for these things in a relationship with Him.
The world is full of deceit and lies. There are many puffed up individuals that would lead a person astray into mystical or spiritual realms that have nothing to do with our true God. There are many deceptive persons who would lead us away from the truth of Jesus. We need to be on our guard. Our prayer is that we have the mind of Christ to live lives of truth.
Heavenly Father, fill us always with Your precious Holy Spirit to be able to discern Your Truth. Enable us by Your Grace to serve You in this Truth always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
