CENTERVILLE — Mother Nature wins again.

Friday night’s 32nd annual Miami Valley Football Coaches Association All-Star Football game at Centerville High School ended in a 14-14 tie due to interfering weather. After multiple lightning delays near the end of the third quarter, officials called the game.

Schools from around Greene County sent players to represent the area. Khalil Capers from Xenia and Greeneview’s Chance Frye both played on the South team for the defense. Cedarville’s Brant Wickline played on the North at wide receiver. Fairborn’s Corey Gayheart and Greenon’s Aaron Leciegewski were on the North offensive and defensive line respectively.

Capers said he appreciated the opportunity to play in one last high school game.

“It means a lot,” he said. “I’ve got to take it serious. It’s my last high school game. I’ve got to go out, all out. It’s a lot of fun.”

Beavercreek assistant coach Bosie Milner was also on the South coaching staff.

The game was more physical than most All-Star games. Both teams were hitting hard and running the ball up the middle. That’s not to say there weren’t some flashy plays. Both teams caught each other off guard multiple times with running back pass plays that gained big yardage, including the first score of the game.

Wes Cole found Conner Henry to put the North on the board first. The North scored again with just under 40 seconds left in the first quarter.

Then the South started to buckle down on defense. Capers, playing defensive back for the South, made multiple big hits during the game.

Thurgood Marshall quarterback Jamahl Manley scored both of the South’s touchdowns in the second quarter.

Both teams played back and forth in the third quarter, but lightning was seen with 53.7 seconds left in the quarter, prompting a 30-minute delay. More lightning was seen during the delay to prompt officials to eventually call the game.
