Beavercreek girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 16th Amanda (Reese) Crockett and Ed Zink Beavercreek Fundamental Girls Basketball Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6-9 at Beavercreek High School.

Cost is $100 per camper with a $10 discount for additional campers from the same family. Anyone who registers by May 20 can register for $90. Camp will be administered and taught by Beavercreek’s all-time scoring leader Amanda (Reese) Crockett, and current Beavers coach and three-time coach of the year Ed Zink, along with current and former basketball players.

Dragons single-game tickets on sale

DAYTON — Dayton Dragons 2016 single-game tickets will are now on sale at the Dragons Box Office located next to the main entry gates at Fifth Third Field.

The box office will be open throughout the season from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On weekend game dates, the box office will open at noon and close in the seventh inning. The box office will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays when the team is on the road. Single-game tickets can be purchased in person, at the Dragons box office, any Miami Valley Kroger store, or any Ticketmaster outlet, online, at daytondragons.com, or by calling the Dragons Box office at 937-228-2287; or Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 937-228-2323.

Wenzler, Nickson receive golf honors

FAIRBORN — Ryan Wenzler and Cody Nickson of the Wright State golf team were recognized as the Horizon League announced its golf postseason awards Thursday night. Wenzler was selected to the First Team while Nickson was named to the Second Team.

Wenzler (Centerville) has posted a team-best 73.15 round average this season, with 10 of his 26 rounds being par or under par. The junior earned medalist honors in two tournaments, winning the Northern Kentucky Collegiate Classic during the fall with a three-round score of 203 and is coming off of winning the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational in Muncie, Ind., last weekend with a three-round score of 214.

Named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week on Tuesday following his performance at the Yestingsmeier Invitational, Wenzler’s top round of the season was a 64 in the second round at NKU and he shot under 70 two more times, carding a 68 in the opening round of the Marshall Invitational in September and shot a 69 in the first round of the Yestingsmeier Invitational.

Roman named to watch list

FAIRBORN — Wright State baseball junior Mitch Roman is one of 54 players selected to the initial 2016 watch list for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, it was announced on Thursday.

The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented as part of the annual Night of Champions celebration on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas.

Roman (Fishers, Ind. Hamilton Southeastern) is currently among the Horizon League leaders in runs scored (26), hits (42), triples (3), walks (16) and stolen bases (17) while hitting .309 with a .391 on-base percentage. He has committed just six errors in 198 fielding chances this season and has been involved in 28 double plays in 36 games.

Russell HL Pitcher of the Week

FAIRBORN. — For the second time this season, Wright State freshman Ally Russell has been selected as the Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week, this time for the week ending April 24, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Russell (Greenville) posted a 2-0 record with a 0.50 earned run average last week along with seven strikeouts in 14 innings. In an 8-1 win on April 19 at Northern Kentucky, she allowed one run on five hits in a complete-game effort, striking out five.

Russell then threw a complete-game, six-hit shutout against Oakland at home on April 23, fanning two. It was the first complete-game shutout of her collegiate career. Russell was previously recognized on March 21.

Morrow HL’s Batter of the Week

FAIRBORN — Sophomore second baseman Matt Morrow of the Wright State baseball team has been selected as the Horizon League Batter of the Week for the week ending April 24, it was announced Monday by the league office.

Morrow (Richmond, Ind.) hit .455 (10 for 22) in five games last week with a .818 slugging percentage, a .538 on-base percentage, three doubles, a triple, a home run, five RBI and five runs scored. In a 7-6, 10-inning setback to Bowling Green on April 19, he was three for four with a solo home run. For the season, Morrow is hitting .267 with 29 runs scored and 16 RBI.
