FAIRBORN — The Wright State softball team tried to rally with two outs in the seventh, but came up short as UIC scored an unearned run in the sixth for a 1-0 Horizon League decision Sunday afternoon at Flames Field.
Hanna Floyd led off the second with a double and Macey Gunther tripled with one out in the sixth, but the Raiders could not push across a run and the game stayed scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth.
UIC started that frame with a single and a hit by pitch and, one out later, loaded the bases on an error. Pinch-hitter Jasmine Willis then drove in the lone run with a sacrifice fly to right.
WSU tried to rally with two outs in the seventh on walks by Macy Cook and Honnah Susor and Vivi Marquez reaching on a passed ball after a strikeout, but a ground out ended the game.
Ashley Sharp (18-6) scattered five hits and a walk while striking out five.
