FAIRBORN — Wright State head baseball coach Greg Lovelady has been named the ABCA/Diamond Mideast Regional Coach of the Year, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Thursday.

Lovelady directed WSU to a school-record 46 wins in 2016 as the Raiders won the Horizon League regular-season and tournament titles. Wright State then advanced to a NCAA Regional final for the second consecutive season before falling to #2 Louisville 3-1.

The Raiders ranked in the top 50 nationally in several categories this season, including walks allowed per nine innings (5th at 2.45), triples (6th with 27), walks (15th with 296), stolen bases (tied for 12th with 101), runs (19th with 448), earned run average (33th at 3.49), on-base percentage (42nd at .388) and hits (43rd with 605).

The 2014 and 2016 Horizon League Coach of the Year, Lovelady has compiled a 124-56 record in three seasons at the helm of the program, including a 69-18 mark in league play.

The Regional Coaches of the Year will be honored during the ABCA/Diamond Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet at the 73rd annual ABCA Convention, which will be held January 5-8, 2017 in Anaheim, California. The banquet is set for January 6, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel.
