FAIRBORN — Lynn Curylo, Wright State head softball coach the past six seasons, has accepted a similar position at UIC, her alma mater.

During her tenure, Curylo directed the Raiders to 147 wins, including a school-record 37 in 2016. WSU also posted an 18-6 mark in Horizon League play, with the 18 wins setting a program record. Over Curylo’s six years as head coach, Wright State posted a 77-54 record in league play.

WSU advanced to the league championship game in each of the last two seasons and advanced to the winner’s bracket final in 2013.

In all, five Raiders earned First Team All-Horizon League honors with Curylo at the helm, three of those in 2016 in shortstop Becka Peterson, pitcher Ashley Sharp and outfielder Honnah Susor. 14 players received Second Team honors, five were named to the All-Freshman/Newcomer Team and 10 were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Prior to her arrival, Curylo worked for two years as an assistant coach at both Illinois and Tennessee State. She also coached at the high school level as the head coach at Milikan High School in Long Beach, California, from 2001-06.

Curylo starred as an outfielder for UIC from 1994-97 and was a member of the Hall of Fame 1994 squad that posted 56 victories and made it all the way to Oklahoma City with the program’s sole Women’s College World Series berth. Named First Team All-Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1996 and 1997, she played in all 80 of the team’s games in 1997, which ties her for eighth on the program’s single-season list. Curylo hit 12 triples in four seasons for the Flames, good for sixth on the all-time list. Half of those three-base hits came in 1996, placing her tied for seventh on that single-season chart.
