No. 1 Carroll falls to Wayne

HUBER HEIGHTS — Mere days after being voted the top-ranked Division II girls high school basketball team in Ohio, by the Associated Press, Carroll faltered 77-53 to Division I perennial powerhouse Wayne, Jan. 14.

The Patriots led 28-27 at the half, but were outscored 24-6 in the final period. Amanda Schroeder led Carroll with 26 points scored, and Ellie Rumme tossed in nine points. No individual statistics were available for Wayne. Carroll gets back into Greater Catholic League Co-Ed action Saturday, Jan. 21 when they play a 2 p.m. game at Cincinnati McNicholas.

‘Bolts better Beavers

BEAVERCREEK — Visiting Clayton Northmont rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to upend host Beavercreek, 51-44, in a boys basketball battle on Jan. 14. No individual statistics were reported by Northmont. Beavercreek (6-6, 3-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference, National East) was led by Jon Alessandro’s 17 points, Peyton Young was next with 14 points and Cedric Baldwin finished with 10.

Beavers bowl over ‘Boro

BEAVERCREEK — Cole Dorsten rolled a match-best 493 two-game series, while Beavercreek teammate Seth Koloski threw a 424 series, to lead the Beavers boys bowling team to a 2,371 to 2,024 win Jan. 10 over Springboro. Michael Donahue rolled a 370 two-game series, while Forrest Ewing (211), Nicholas Wood (210), Ben Patrick (160) and “Sub Score #1” (151) each contributed to the win.

Beavercreek bowls over ‘Boro II

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek girls bowling team completed Jan. 10 sweep over Springboro with a 2,174 to 1,714 win over the Panthers. Brittany-Ann O’Connell led the Beavers with a 406 two-game series, while teammate Emily Florkey was right behind with a 403. Other Beavercreek scores were rolled by: Cameron Reich (two game 385 series); Raven Cooper (222 game); Kaylee Fernatt and Jenna Morgan (157s) and “Sub Score #1” (134).

Carroll strong in boys win

RIVERSIDE — Brody Dixon tossed a match-high 513 two-game series while Jacob Schoening and Shawn Williams rolled respective 441 and 421 series in the Carroll boys 2,746 to 2,516 bowling win over Hamilton Badin on Jan. 10. Mitch Weitz had a two-game 343 series, Joshua Goodpaster threw a 180 game, and “Substitution #1” rolled a 150 for the Patriots.

Carroll bests Beavercreek

RIVERSIDE — Host Carroll had doubled up Beavercreek by a 35-17 score at halftime, and cruised to a 62-53 win on Jan. 9. The Patriots’ Morgan King led all scorers with 20 points, Amanda Schroeder was next with 13 points and a dozen rebounds, and Allie Stefanek finished with11 points in the win.

Four Battlin’ Beavers scored in double digits: Carmen Williams led Beavercreek with 14 points, Lexi Moore scored 12 points, while Keaira Youngblood and Cori Dilsavor both finished with 10.

Rowing indoor program in February

DAYTON — The Dayton Boat Club is offering a two-month indoor rowing program this winter for adults looking to burn calories, build strength and endurance, meet new friends, and learn the mechanics of the sport of rowing from professional coaches and experienced rowers.

The program starts with two sessions of instruction 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Downtown Dayton YMCA, 316 N. Wilkinson St. To register or to request more information, fill out the online form at daytonboatclub.org/adult-winter-erging.html.
