Carroll boys at indoor championships
AKRON — Track athletes from Carroll High School earned several podium finishes at the state indoor track & field championships, held Saturday, March 11 at the University of Akron.
In Division II, Carroll’s boys tied for third overall. Distance runner Mike Laughlin won a state title with his first-place finishing time of 9 minutes, 35.38 seconds in the boys 3,200 meter run.
Six other Patriot athletes also earned All-Ohio honors for their respective finishes: Sam Janson finished fourth in the boys 400 dash with a school indoor record time of 50.57 seconds; Jacob Rieman set a school indoor mark in the Weight Throw, finishing eighth at state with a toss of 57 feet, 4 inches; Janson Brad Klingbeil, Grant Arnold and Karl Grossman set a new indoor school mark with their all-Ohio third place finish in the 3,200 relay (8:11.71); and Annie Bete placed an all-Ohio eighth in the high jump with a leap of 4-11.
Other Carroll state qualifiers were Jake Saul, Mike Ciesko, David Saurine, Eric Nwankwo, Mauirta Lansangan, Nikki Gazzerro, Amelia Harlow, Maria McCarthy, Paige Wright, Cassidy Nitz, Amanda Devillier, Mackenzie Donaldson and Camryn Joseph.
Beavercreek places in Akron
AKRON — Distance runner Ben Ewert earned all-Ohio honors in the boys mile run, while the girls two-mile relay quartet of Lauren Shuman, Jordan Grant, Stephanie Pierce and Jody Pierce became all-Ohioans as well, during Saturday’s Division I indoor track & field championships at Akron University.
Ewert finished fourth in the boys 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:18.28. The girls 3,200-meter relay team finished third with a school-record time of 9:21.89. The top-8 finishers in each event earned all-Ohio status.
Beavercreek Fastpitch signups continue
BEAVERCREEK — Signups for the 2017 Beavercreek Fastpitch softball season continue, with practice for 8U, 10U and 12U leagues set to begin in April.Registration forms were sent home with Beavercreek students in first through fifth grade. Middle school and high school students can still obtain registration forms in their school offices. Forms can also be found online at: http://www.eteamz.com/beavercreekfastpitch/ . Practice for Beavercreek Fastpitch 14U and 18U league teams will begin after the scholastic softball season has ended, in approximately mid-May.

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department is currently accepting registrations for Summer Adult Softball for coed and men’s teams.
For fees and times contact the parks department. The league fees include team sanctioning, softballs, umpire fees, and awards. The season runs from April 17 to July 25 with all games played at Rotary Park. Tai Chi classes offered
BEAVERCREEK — Improve your health, balance and manage stress by enrolling in Beginning Tai Chi for Health and Wellness class offered by Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Class is scheduled for Wednesdays, April 5 – May 13, 6-7 p.m. at C. I. Beaver Hall, 3696 Highmont Street. Fee is $45 for residents; $52 for non-residents.
