Beavercreek tops MVSSCA soccer poll

DAYTON — The Beavercreek high school boys soccer team was voted No. 1 in the first Miami Valley Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association poll, released Sept. 1. Carroll is ranked third in the same boys D-I poll. In boys D-II, Bellbrook was voted No. 3, and Yellow Springs received a No. 5 ranking in the boys Division III poll.

In girls soccer, Beavercreek is ranked No. 3 in the girls D-I poll, with Bellbrook and Carroll third and fourth respectively in the girls Division II poll. Greeneview took home a No. 8 ranking in the first girls Division III poll.

Beavercreek sinks Fairmont

KETTERING — The Beavercreek boys high school soccer team improved to 3-0-1 this season with a 4-0 win over Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Fairmont on Aug. 31. Ryan Bernt scored on an assist from Jacob Westerkamp, Evan Williams scored off a pass from Daniel Donohue, Westerkamp then scored off an assist from Williams, and then Joshua Fleck scored off an assist from Caleb Russell.

Fairmont is now 1-3-2 this season. Beavercreek’s next match is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 at Springboro.

Fall basketball league at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.

The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. Beavers stay undefeated

BEAVERCREEK —Beavercreek remained undefeated with a 2-0-1 record after an Aug. 29 win, 4-1, over visiting Miamisburg. Ryan Bernt had an unassisted goal, while Evan Williams, Ryan Wightman and Daniel Donohue each scored of respective assists from Beaver teammates Jonah Ackerson, Caleb Russell and Ackerson again.

Ben Sundermann scored the lone Vikings goal on a penalty kick. Miamisburg is now 1-2-0.

Beavers sweep Fairfield

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek defeated Fairfield in non-league action Monday night Aug. 28 in three games. 25-18, 25-23, 25-15.

Hannah Lefevers had 26 assists, one block, one kill and nine digs. Sarah Laughman 11 kills and two blocks. Lauren Goenaga-Lask six kills and 10 digs. Sara Skaggs three kills. Kelly Geonaga-Lask had five kills, three service aces, a block and nine digs.

WSU women’s soccer wins

FAIRBORN — The Wright State University women’s soccer team moved to 3-2 on the season with a victory over St. Bonaventure, Thursday Aug. 31 at Alumni Field.

Senior Sarah Colvin notched her second goal of the season at the 11:23 mark of the first half, assisted by Aaliyah Patten. Colvin led the Raiders with three shots on goal in the game. With five minutes left in the first half, freshman Brittney Petrosky found the back of the net on a header for her first goal of her Raider career. The assist was credited to Monica Hennen.

In the 82nd minute of the second half, sophomore Jordyne Helinksi scored her first goal of the season with an assist going to Niki Romero. Sophomore Goalkeeper Maddie Jewell went the distance, posting a shutout against St. Bonaventure (0-5). Wright State posted season highs with 23 total shots and 11 on goal. The Bonnies finished the night with nine total shots with four on goal.

The Raiders will be back in action against West Virginia as they play 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4 at Morgantown, W.Va.
