Beavers nip St. Charles

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School boys volleyball team closed out its regular season with a narrow five-set home win over Ohio’s second ranked team in Division II, Columbus St. Charles. Beavercreek claimed a 27-25, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25, 16-14 nail biter over the Cardinals on May 19.

Ben Page recorded eight kills, Riley Bell had five blocks and seven kills, Jarrod Brown had 20 assists and a pair of service aces, and Parker Mikesch came up with a dozen digs and two other aces. Beavercreek (18-6) drew a first-round bye in the district tournament. The top-seeded Beavers take on 10-seed Miamisburg next in the second round at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Centerville High School.

SW Track program starts

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track and Field team will begin its 2018 season on May 29, and will continue through July.

Practice for athletes ages 7-12 will be be from 5-6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 26. Practice for athletes 13 and over takes place from 6-7:45 p.m. on the same days. Cost for membership is $50.

Locals in North-South football game

CENTERVILLE — The 35th Miami Valley Football Coaches Association (MVFCA) North-South All Star high school football game will be held at 7 p.m., Friday June 28 at Centerville High School. Greene County area players will be among the players on the North and the South teams rosters.

Fairborn senior linemen Brandon Becraft and Dahzaun Richardson are listed on the North team, which will be coached by Northmont head coach Tony Broering with an all-star staff that includes former Xenia head coach Bob DeLong.

Bellbrook linemen Drew Ashurst and Alex Mumy, Beavercreek offensive lineman Caleb Fawley and defensive back Jordan Williams, along with Carroll defensive back Jacob Heil are listed on the South roster, which will be coached by Chaminade Julienne head coach Marcus Colvin.

The MVFCA will also recognize its 2018 head coach and assistant coach hall of fame inductees, which will include assistant coaches Bob Franz (Carroll), Tom Massie (Fairborn), and Jim Benites (Bellbrook), at the game.

Carroll basketball signups under way

RIVERSIDE — The Carroll High School boys basketball program will be hosting two basketball camps in June. The first camp is set for 9 a.m. to noon June 4-8 for boys in 2-5 grade. The second camp is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. June 11-15 for boys in 6-8 grade. Cost for each camp is $85, with registration taking place a half hour before each camp in the Carroll auxiliary gymnasium.

Players will receive instruction from varsity coaches and players, listen to guest speakers, receive T-shirts, and have fun while working hard at their basketball skills. Daily 5-on-5, 3-on-3 and 1-on-1 games will be played.
