BEAVERCREEK — Mayor, Brian Jarvis presented merit awards to the graduating seniors of the Beavercreek Youth Council during the most recent city council meeting. The city awarded them for their outstanding volunteerism in the community.

“It’s amazing to see what High School students can do now-a-days,” Mayor Jarvis said. “We really appreciate it.”

The Beavercreek Youth Council begins in grade 6 and students learn the importance of helping the community by either raising money for other foundations or directly helping others in the community. Currently, the group consists of around 45 students and continues to grow in popularity.

“We’re really proud of you and wish you the best luck in the future,” Mentor, Felicia Hall said. “I know we gave you a great foundation of leadership and the drive to get something done. Sometimes it wasn’t so easy, but we did it.”

The graduating seniors from the group include Amena Gonzola, Mary Poth, Matthew Talent, Tony Corenza, UJ Ying and two others that were unable to attend the meeting.

The group organizes the annual middle school dances, pancake breakfasts, Santa workshops, packages food for the Kids against Hunger campaign, as well as other great causers. The group decides on the activities and what organizations could gain from the monetary donations from the group.

“This [award] commends and shows appreciation to you for showing the importance of community youth involvement. You engaged your talents and desire to make a difference. I want to thank you for making a difference in Beavercreek and thank you for your dedication to the community. You all did great,” Mayor Jarvis said.
