BEAVERCREEK — Master gardeners have unveiled and rehabilitated the Grotto Gardens at the Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center, a National Landmark and Susan Witherspoon will be the next speaker for the Beavercreek Women’s League on Wednesday, May 3.

Susan Witherspoon, Master Gardener, is one of the many gardeners who celebrate the fact that by the year 1900, Dayton had 25 acres of ornate gardens at the current VA location that were considered more beautiful than Central Park in NYC. In fact, in 1900, the facility was a national resort destination attracting more than 600,000 visitors a year! It was all built and maintained by disabled or homeless veterans of the American Civil War. It was President Abraham Lincoln who signed the legislation. Today local volunteers are bringing this notable landmark garden back to life. Come, listen, and be proud. Then plan a time to visit the grounds.

Beavercreek Women’s League meetings and programs are open to the public. Coffee hour and networking will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the business meeting and installation of officers at 9:30 a.m. Witherspoon will make her presentation beginning at 10:45 a.m. The meeting will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in the Fellowship Hall, 3530 Dayton-Xenia Road in Beavercreek. Visitors and guests are always welcome. Child care will not be provided.
