BEAVERCREEK — An incumbent, a challenger and a write-in claimed three spots on Beavercreek City Council Nov. 7 according to unofficial final election results.

Mayor Bob Stone led with 49.63 percent of the vote while Joanna Garcia came in a close second at 42.35 percent. Write-in candidates claimed 8.02 percent of the votes as a whole — Ryan Rushing receiving 744 votes while Shannon Graham received 145.

As the front-runner, Stone received 7,849 votes. His re-election puts him in his 14th year of public service. Aside from his current position as mayor, he has served as city councilman, township trustee and vice mayor. Prior to election night, Stone said he would continue meeting with organizations, schools and businesses. Another priority for him, he said, is to make sure first responders are well prepared.

Trailing Stone’s lead with just about 1,000 votes fewer, Garcia earned 6,697 votes to claim a spot for her first year on council. Garcia works as an attorney at a Dayton law firm. She said her professional experience has prepared her for this role — where she said she’ll collaborate with township colleagues to reduce costs and work to share services. She also said she plans to work with the police department to help provide them more tools, resources and training.

Rushing’s 599-v0te-lead over Graham secured him the third spot on council. Rushing works in the Greene County Treasurer’s Office and is the current finance director for the Village of Carlisle. He said he’d pay attention to the management of stormwater, a community curb and sidewalk program, the schools and parks and recreation.
