XENIA — Cedarville University track and field athlete and U.S. Paralympic gold and bronze medalist Grace Norman has been nominated for an ESPY Award. Norman will attend the ESPY Awards Ceremony, July 12 in Los Angeles. The event will be aired live on ABC television.

Norman is a finalist in the category for Best Female Athlete with a Disability. At the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Norman won her women’s division paratriathlon. Roughly 24 hours later, she placed third in the women’s 400-meter run.

The Cedarville University freshman’s competitive spring schedule was curtailed a bit, due to a broken wrist she suffered whihle training in early April. She was cleared to compete earlier this month.

Due to the injury, Norman could not finish out her freshman NCAA track season, had to forgo the International Triathlon Union-sanctioned triathlon competition in Yokahoma, Japan, and had to step out of the Paralympic World Championships for Track & Field as well.

She is currently in Sandy, Utah training with her coach, Wes Johnson, and his team from Balance Art Multisport (BAM). When she arrived, they had just started an elite training camp. Norman has been working with Olympic running coach Bobby McGee for several days. She also attended a Question & Answer session with Rio Olympic gold medal winner Gwen Jorgensen. According to her mom, Xenia Legacy Christian track coach Robin Norman, Grace is putting in 3-5 hours a day training and says that it is good to be back at it again.

After the ESPY’s, Norman plans to be at the Olympic Training Center, July 14, in San Diego for an Elite Paratriathlon Camp. She’ll return to ITU Triathlon competition July 29 in Edmonton. Canada. The plan is to qualify for the World Championships in Triathlon to be held September 14-17, in The Netherlands.
