Local CC teams advance to regional

CEDARVILLE — Six area teams qualified for the Oct. 28 regional cross country championships at Troy after running well Oct. 21 at the district meet at Cedarville University.

Beavercreek’s boys and girls, Carroll’s boys and girls, Bellbrook’s girls and Cedarville’s boys all advanced to the regional.

Carroll’s boys were second to Centerville in the Division I meet with 96 points. Centerville had 52 points. Because it was a combined meet, the top two teams are considered district champs. Beavercreek (172) was sixth.

Carroll’s Karl Grossman (16:05.56) was fifth, followed by Sam Janson (17:17.89), 10th, Grant Arnold (16:44.07) 20th, Jason Dong (16:55.92) 26th, and Kevin Agnew (17:10.24) 35th.

Riley Buchholz (16:17.51) was ninth to pace the Beavers. Sam Pearl (16:53.13) was 23rd, Connor Ewert (17:16.07) 41st, Cooper Hansen (17:24.75) 46th, and Blake Martin (17:33.96) 53rd.

Cole Weslow (16:55.32) ran 25th and qualified as an individual for Bellbrook, which was 10th as a team.

Beavercreek’s girls were second with 54 points and along with Springboro (37) was a district champ.

Taylor Ewert (17:50.48) was fourth overall for the Beavers, followed by Juliann Williams (18:51.53) in sixth, Jodie Pierce (19:10.16) in seventh, Stephanie Pierce (20:06.64) in 14th, and Kendall Hobbs (20:25.65) in 23rd.

Bellbrook was second and Carroll seventh in the D-II girls race.

Tippecanoe (67 points) won while Bellbrook had 80 points and was a district champ. Carroll had 233.

Avarie Faulkner led the Golden Eagles with a fifth-place finish in 19:43.09. Elise Kemper (19:47.08) was eighth, Emily Pelfrey (20:42.05) 20th, Cara Fine (20:49.55) 23rd, and Minami Ford (20:51.70) 24th.

Paige Wright (21:05.27) was 28th to lead Carroll. Cecelia Leopold (21:51.24) was 40th, Trinity Raber (21:58.41) was 45th, Ellie Erich (22:05.34) 48th, and Cassidy Nitz (22:59.28) 76th.

The Cedarville boys were third in the D-III race with 188 points. Fort Loramie (76) was first, followed by Houston (152).

Ethan Walls was the top Cedarville runner, finishing sixth in 16:46.53. Trent Koning (16:52.17) was eighth, Jonah Sheridan (17:45.72) 33rd, Isaiah Estepp (18:11.72) 50th and Ben Kensinger (19:06.08) 93rd.

Legacy Christian had two boys runners qualify as individuals: Isaac Erlandson, who ran fourth in 16:26.94, and James Brads, who ran 21st in 17:31.65.

No area girls teams qualified for the regional, however Legacy Christian’s Tori Estepp advanced as an individual, running 17th in 20:30.01.
