Sutton enrolls at OCU
CIRCLEVILLE — William Sutton has enrolled at Ohio Christian University for the fall 2017 semester. Sutton is majoring in Accounting & Finance and is among the new students who began classes Aug. 30.
Bonnema named to choir
GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Bob Jones University music faculty has named Adriana Bonnema of Beavercreek to the University’s Trumpet Choir. Bonnema is a Senior majoring in English Education.
The Trumpet Choir is one of BJU’s brass program ensembles and is comprised of music majors and minors, and a variety of other academic majors including education, engineering, and computer science. Auditions for the group are held at the beginning of each semester.
Vargas presents research
DELAWARE — More than 30 Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their summer science research projects and internships Sept. 18 at the university’s 25th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium.
Diego Venegas Vargas of Fairborn presented “Parity Measurements in the 70Ga Nucleus,” seeking to advance research in nuclear physics — mentored by OWU faculty member Robert Haring-Kaye, Department of Physics and Astronomy. The students presented information and answered questions about their work, which was documented in posters outlining each project.
Tuttle enrolls in Belmont
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Caleb Tuttle of Beavercreek enrolled at Belmont University this semester as part of the university’s largest class yet.
The school kicked off the year with a record-breaking enrollment for the 17th consecutive year with a total of 8,080 students, nearly triple the enrollment in 2000.
Beavercreek resident completes internship
ASHLAND — Tyler Seymour of Beavercreek, a senior finance major at Ashland University, completed an internship with Prasco Laboratories in Mason. This internship was under the supervision of the organization’s associate director of finance and accounting, April Smith-Becker.
He is the son of Robert and Patricia Seymour of Beavercreek and is a 2014 graduate of Carroll High School.
Seymour explained Prasco is a pharmaceutical company rooted in Christian values and principles. He said Prasco provided a very welcoming atmosphere by many hard working individuals. While working at Prasco, one of Seymour’s responsibilities as an intern was working with their receivable accounts on day-to-day tasks.
Seymour said, “I became accustomed to a wide variety of business language as it relates to different areas of finance and accounting. I learned the importance and value of relationships, while also getting the opportunity to handle business activities. My spectrum of knowledge has grown considerably.”
Seymour believes his classes at AU provided him with the foundation he needed to be able to understand concepts and apply his knowledge on the spot.
Stevens named to Mensa
BEAVERCREEK — Jeremiah Stevens has joined the Mensa Society. Stevens is a 2016 graduate of Beavercreek High school. andson of Robert and Kimberly Stevens. He is currently a junior at Wright State University pursuing a degree in chemistry.
Cook named to University Singers
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Austin Cook of Fairborn has been named to Bob Jones University’s University Singers, BJU’s largest choral organization. Cook is a Freshman majoring in Cross-Cultural Service.
All students at BJU are welcome to audition and are placed in a choral group according to their classification and abilities. Singers are re-auditioned periodically to determine proper placement.
Beavercreek native sworn into UA AFROTC
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alexander Naff is now contracted with the University of Alabama’s Air Force ROTC detachment.
Naff, a graduate of Beavercreek High School, was one of 20 UA undergraduates sworn into UA’s Air Force ROTC detachment on Sept. 21 at “Bama Salute,” a UA Athletics-sponsored event that honors active duty military members and veterans at various UA sporting events throughout the year.
The UA cadets were sworn in during halftime of a UA soccer game in front of nearly 700 people, an atypical celebrated venue and audience, as contracting ceremonies are typically low-key, with family and other cadets and ROTC cadre present.
