FAIRBORN — The Horizon League honored Peyton Burdick as Player of the Week and Zane Collins as Pitcher of the Week for their performances this weekend at the LeClair Classic on March 4.

Peyton Burdick put up monster numbers at the plate in the three-game weekend for the Raiders. The junior hit 7 for 13 (.538) and now sports a .414 average for the season along with a .528 on-base percentage. Burdick went deep in each of the three games, adding 8 RBI and 7 runs as well.

He turned in a 2 for 5 outing in the Raider victory over #9 East Carolina, recording three of his team-high 11 RBI this season in the win. After the game, coach Alex Sogard commented, “Peyton Burdick had another big day at the plate. He made some adjustments during the game and took advantage of their mistakes over the plate.” The Batavia, Ohio native also leads Wright State in runs scored and is tied for the most walks, doubles, and hits to date this year.

For the second time already this season, Zane Collins was awarded Pitcher of the Week by the Horizon League. Collins dominated #9 East Carolina on Saturday, recording his second win this season over a top-10 program.

Against the Pirates, Collins completed 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters without surrendering an earned run in the outing. Alex Sogard said that Collins’ performance was “fun to watch,” adding, “Collins was very impressive tonight, he competed all night long and was able to keep their offense quiet.”

Wright State (4-4) is scheduled to return to action 3 p.m. Friday, March 8 against Canisius in the Raider home opener.
