XENIA — Xenia Municipal Court Judge Michael Murry has been awarded the “Seven Seals Award” by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a branch of the United States Department of Defense.

The ESGR was established in 1972 to develop and promote a supportive work environment for service members in the Reserve components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws and resolves employer conflicts between the service members and their employers.

The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by the ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the state chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission.

Murry was nominated by Capt. Jason Parsons, a probation officer of the Xenia Municipal Court and a member of the Ohio National Guard. Parsons was recently deployed and wrote a letter to the ESGR praising Murry’s support prior to his departure.

“As I prepare to mobilize for deployment to Kuwait, I want to submit my employer for an ESGR award,” the letter said. “I would like to nominate my employer for the Seven Seals Award with data pertaining below. I have been employed as a Probation Officer with The Xenia Municipal Court (located in Xenia, Ohio with the Honorable Judge Michael K. Murry presiding) since October, 2014. Since that time, my employer has supported my efforts in allowing me to participate (without hesitation) in annual training events, my Captain’s Career Course, and extended training events in preparation for my upcoming deployment to Kuwait later in the week. Most recently, Judge Murry held a surprise going away ceremony for me in which my City of Xenia Mayor, City Manager, my family, and fellow court and probation staff were present. Additionally, Judge Murry brought in Lieutenant General (retired) Loren Reno as a guest speaker during my going away ceremony. My employer has guaranteed my job upon my return home mid next year and continues to support my involvement with the Ohio National Guard.”

Murry accepted the award at Xenia Municipal Court but was quick to acknowledge that the real honor goes to men and women committed to serving our country in this manner.
